Doctoral Student Travel Awards

The Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) is now accepting applications for the Doctoral Student Travel Awards Program for the 2026 Annual Conference, taking place January 14–18, 2026, in Washington, DC. Applications are due Thursday, November 6, 2025, by 11:59 PM PST.

Program Purpose

The SSWR Doctoral Student Travel Award Program is designed to increase the diversity of doctoral student presenters from underrepresented groups by providing support for their attendance and presentation at the SSWR Annual Conference. Awardees receive a travel stipend and complimentary conference registration.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled doctoral students.
  • Have received an abstract acceptance as a presenting author for the 2026 SSWR conference.

Applicants must also identify as members of a historically underrepresented racial/ethnic group, first-generation college students, or other disadvantaged groups. Eligible applicants must demonstrate current and significant financial hardship or other circumstances that may adversely impact attendance. The SSWR Research Capacity Development Committee (RCDC) selects awardees.

Awards

  • Up to 30 travel stipends of $500 each will be distributed at conference check-in.
  • Stipends are intended to defray costs such as airfare, ground travel, hotel, and meals.
  • Conference registration is included for all award recipients.

  • Applications must be completed online.
