JSSWR Early Career Reviewer Program | Request for Applications
The Early Career Reviewer Program is a key initiative designed to cultivate the next generation of social work leaders.
This invaluable program facilitates scholarly exchange and dialogue by pairing early-career scholars with senior mentors who have extensive publishing and editorial experience. Through this mentored relationship, reviewers gain hands-on experience by reviewing up to three manuscripts per year over a 2-year period. This process not only teaches the fundamentals of disseminating ethical, evidence-based, and impactful research, but also reinforces the importance of translating research into action.
JSSWR Early Career Reviewer Program | Overview
The Journal of the Society for Social Work and Research (JSSWR) Early Career Reviewer Program provides an opportunity for scholars early in their academic careers to work with senior mentors who have extensive publishing and editorial experience. The program provides mentored experiences in the review of up to three manuscripts per year over a 2-year period. Both the Early Career Reviewer (ECR) and their mentor will be recognized at the annual SSWR conference and in the journal’s annual acknowledgment of service.
Eligibility Criteria Individuals in postdoctoral appointments and appointed faculty members within 3 years of graduation are eligible to apply. All applicants must have a doctoral degree in social work or a related discipline. Applicants should select a mentor in advance of the application process and submit the mentor’s name and credentials, along with a letter of interest. Mentors must have experience reviewing manuscripts and publication records that demonstrate knowledge of journal publication practices. All ECRs (and their mentors) must maintain a membership in the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR).
Expectations ECRs and mentors will, together, review up to three manuscripts per year over a 2-year period. Terms will begin on November 1, 2022. Completed reviews are to be submitted to the journal using the Editorial Manager system. An introductory meeting and Q & A session will be scheduled prior to the first reviewer assignments.
Application ECR applicants should include the following information in their submission materials:
- Applicant’s name, position, academic rank, and CV;
- A brief letter communicating the applicant’s interest in the ECR program;
- Mentor’s name, position, academic rank, CV, and statement agreeing to co-review up to three manuscripts per year for 2 years.
Selection Process Applications will be reviewed by the JSSWR Editor-in-Chief and members of the JSSWR editorial board. Applicants will be notified by e-mail of the results of the selection by October 15, 2022.
