Dr. Kyaien O. Conner Named Dean of the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work

SSWR congratulates member Dr. Kyaien O. Conner on being named dean of the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work. She assumed the role on July 15 following a comprehensive national search.

A nationally recognized scholar, educator, and leader, Dr. Conner is a four-time University of Pittsburgh graduate. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a Master of Social Work, a Master of Public Health with a specialization in minority health and health disparities, and a PhD in social work.

After beginning her academic career at the University of South Florida, Dr. Conner returned to Pitt as a professor in the School of Social Work in 2023. She has served as associate dean, the Donald M. Henderson Endowed Chair, and director of the Center on Race and Social Problems.

Congratulations, Dr. Conner, on this significant leadership appointment. We look forward to her continued contributions to social work education, scholarship, and the profession.

Dr. Hanni Flaherty Awarded Tenure

SSWR member Dr. Hanni Flaherty has been awarded tenure at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work.

Dr. Flaherty’s work reflects a sustained commitment to teaching, scholarship, leadership, and service to the school and the broader social work community.

Her appointment as associate professor will begin in August.
